The Bird Fair at Rutland Water back in August  was succesful and enjoyable as ever, meeting many old friends and making new ones. After the Bird Fair I went on to Sutton Bridge to stay with an old friend there in the west lighthouse. The Norfolk coast was next on the list, catching up with folk I hadn't seen for years. It's a shame Norfolk is so far from N Wales as I would then visit more often!

Since August I have been giving talks to Photographic and Natural History Societies, mainly on the theme of 'Filming Wildlife for TV'.  Other talks I do are 'A Passion for Wildfowl' looking at wildfowl across the world from the Antarctic to the Arctic, their migrations, habits and conservation stories. I also do talks on my visits to the subantarctic and Antarctic continent with visits to the huts of Scott and Shackleton.

In early January 2018 I will be going south again from New Zealand to Commonwealth Bay on the Antarctic continent.  We hope to get ashore to visit to Sir Douglas Mawson's base (1911). It is a notoriously difficult place to land due to ice conditions and ferocious winds,( it is known as the home of the blizzard) recent expeditions have failed to make a landing. let's hope we have the elements on our side this year!
